Language Translation...

Okay, many of you know that my MIL is Japanese and she moved here when my husband was 4. Well, those of you who have adopted know that sometimes the language can be tricky. Try learning it in your thirties and you wind up making some of your own translations. One that my MIL has come up with is the chi-bong-bong. It sounds like chee-bone-bone when she says it. Well this is her term for the male genitalia. When the boys are washing she sometimes will go in there are remind them to wash their chi-bong-bong and both boys know what she is referring to. So this weekend Samuel was bathing and I reminded him to wash all over. He said "I washed my chicken bone." I thought I was going to lose it. I guess somewhere between the Japanese/English to Vietnamese/English the translation was changed! To top it off, my mother, who is very old fashioned and thinks speaking of things like that is taboo, was standing near by. This made it even funnier to me. (Please don't tell my Aunt Judy about all the mistakes in that previous sentence.)
